DESCRIPTION:The Carillon Classic 5K Run & Walk at Bok Tower Gardens features what many consider Central Florida’s most challenging 5K course\, since it requires runners and walkers to cope with elevation changes as well as a variety of terrains\, including paved roads and gravel and mulch trails. As they compete high atop Iron Mountain\, one of the highest points on the Florida peninsula\, runners are also exposed to soothing music from the famed Bok Tower carillon as well as beautiful gardens\, citrus groves and mountain vistas.

DESCRIPTION:IRONMAN 70.3 Florida will be held at Lake Eva Park in Haines City. Haines City is just minutes away from many of the Central Florida attractions\, including LEGOLAND Florida Resort\, and features an exciting course. \nJust 30 minutes outside of Orlando\, Lake Eva Park provides a great setting for the event. The one-loop swim starts and finishes on a white sand beach. The transition area will be set up in a large parking lot on the site. \nThe one-loop bike route goes through Polk County and offers athletes the chance to enjoy views of citrus groves and cattle farms as they ride along the quiet country roads. Along the way athletes will ride past Bok Tower Gardens\, considered one of Florida’s “must-see” attractions\, and the course also goes along Highway 17\, which has been designated as one of Florida’s scenic highways. \nThe run course includes three loops around Lake Eva and finishes in a grassy park near the lake. \nThis is a great event for spectators.

SUMMARY:Safari Wilderness Run
DESCRIPTION:The expansive private wilderness area\, Safari Wilderness Ranch\, will be holding the Safari Wilderness Run Saturday\, March 23\, at 8 a.m. The ranch is located at 10850 Moore Road\, Lakeland\, FL 33809. \nThe race will be close to five kilometers long. Participants will cover a course consisting of grass\, dirt\, gravel and sand. Much of the course is not groomed\, but will be mowed as low as possible. If there is rain there will be spots of mud and puddles. Given the nature of the course\, exact measuring will be a challenge. \nThe race will be chip timed. Refreshments and awards will be presented after the race. SUMMARY:2nd Annual Strummin' and Drummin' 5K
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd Annual Strummin’ and Drummin’ 5K Run/Walk and Kids Run will be held Saturday\, April 14\, at 8 a.m. at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex\, 2701 Berkley Road in Auburndale. Mail in registrations must be received by April 1. Register online here. \nProceeds from the 5K will provide foster children\, served through Polk\, Highlands and Hardee counties’ Heartland for Children non-profit organization\, with essential personal items to support their transition into foster care. \nA small portion of the proceeds will also sponsor the PPCA Culinary Cares Project (CCP) which provides meals for families touched by life changing events. The Culinary Cares Project was created in August of 2017 and the high school culinary team has already brought comfort and joy to a number of families. Funds will be used to continue the purchase of menu items and kitchen equipment needed for the meal preparation. \nMusical performances will be heard throughout the course. All participants will receive a finishers medal and awards will be presented to top finishers in specific age categories. Registrations by 11:59 p.m.\, April 1 are guaranteed a custom race T-shirt. Post-race food for 5K participants provided with bib number. \nBicycles\, roller blades/skates and dogs are prohibited on the course. Run/walk etiquette is encouraged. Strollers/joggers must start behind all runners. Stroller/jogger operators must yield the right of way to runners/walkers.
