Annie Lett
Annie Lett began her swimming career in the pools of Polk County in the 1970’s and that career took her across the country breaking records, some which still stand today. As a member of the Bartow High School swimming team, Lett was the 3A State Champion in the 100-yard freestyle in 1978 and 1979 and the 3A State Champion in 1980 in the 400-yard freestyle. Following her days at Bartow High, Lett went on to star at Auburn University, where she was a top performer among the Southeastern Conference (SEC). While at Auburn, Lett continued her dominance while earning an amazing 26 All-America honors from 1981-1984. This feat is still a record for the most All-America honors in women’s swimming history at Auburn. She was also the first Auburn woman to break 50 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle. Also, during her career at Auburn she was world ranked in three events, was a three time SEC champion and was named Auburn University’s Women’s Athlete of the Year. On top of her accomplishments in the water, Lett was also a member of the SEC academic honor roll.
