Lois Webb

Lois Webb stands among the most accomplished coaches and administrators in Florida Southern College’s storied athletic history — a remarkable distinction at an institution boasting more than 24 national championships.

For 24 years, Webb served as the head coach of the Florida Southern volleyball program, where she built a dynasty defined by discipline, consistency, and excellence. By the time she retired from coaching in 2001, Webb had compiled an incredible 747-272 career record, ranking her second all-time in wins among NCAA Division II coaches. Her impressive .733 winning percentage placed her among the top ten coaches in Division II history.

Under her leadership, the Moccasins earned 16 NCAA postseason appearances, advancing to the NCAA National Championships three consecutive years (1989, 1990, 1991) and finishing fourth nationally in both 1989 and 1991. Her players were known not only for their skill but also for their dedication to teamwork and sportsmanship — qualities Webb emphasized throughout her tenure.

In addition to volleyball, Webb also made her mark in other sports, serving as head basketball coach from 1977 to 1982 and establishing the women’s golf program, acting as its first head coach for two seasons. Her versatility and commitment to the growth of women’s athletics were instrumental in shaping the foundation of Florida Southern’s success across multiple programs.

Beyond coaching, Webb transitioned into leadership, serving as Florida Southern’s Director of Athletics, NCAA Senior Woman Administrator since 1981, and interim Athletic Director in 2000. Her influence extended beyond the playing field, helping guide policies that enhanced opportunities for student-athletes across all sports.

Webb’s career has been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into both the Florida Southern College Hall of Fame and the Inaugural Class of the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame. She is also a 2002 recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Founders Award and was enshrined in the first AVCA Hall of Fame class, celebrating her lasting impact on collegiate volleyball.

A true pioneer and leader, Lois Webb’s career embodies the spirit of excellence, mentorship, and innovation that continues to define Florida Southern College athletics today.
