Chris Bellotto

Chris Bellotto, a native of Lakeland, Florida, attended Lakeland High School before continuing her education at Polk Community College and Florida Southern College (FSC), where she earned both her bachelor’s and later a master’s degree from the University of South Florida. Her deep Polk County roots shaped her lifelong commitment to the local community and collegiate athletics.
Bellotto became Florida Southern’s head softball coach in 1982, guiding the program through three slow-pitch seasons before transitioning to fast-pitch in 1985. Over her 38-year tenure, she amassed a remarkable 1,310-554-1 career record, becoming only the 14th NCAA coach to reach 1,000 wins, with a .703 career winning percentage, ranking among the best in Division II history.
Under Bellotto, FSC achieved national prominence, winning the 1993 NCAA Division II national championship and capturing 24 conference titles, including a streak of 19 consecutive Sunshine State Conference championships. Her teams posted 30+ wins in 24 seasons and 40+ wins in 17 seasons, with only five losing campaigns in nearly four decades.
Bellotto’s influence extended beyond wins: she coached 45 All-Americans, 21 Academic All-Americans, and left a lasting legacy in Polk County and NCAA softball. FSC honored her contributions by naming the softball stadium Chris Bellotto Field. She retired in 2020, closing a legendary chapter as one of Division II softball’s most accomplished coaches.
