Bruce Scamehorn
Bruce Scamehorn has set the standard for amateur golfers in Polk County for over four decades. Known for his consistency, his peers around the state of Florida recognize him as the best career amateur in Polk County history, winning over 30 tournaments across the state of Florida during his career.
Among all of those victories, Scamehorn is best known around here for winning an unparalleled 17 championships in Polk County’s four major amateur golf tournaments- the Ben Hill Griffin Invitational, Cleveland Heights 4-Ball, Youth Villa Classic, and Polk County Amateur. He has captured the Ben Hill Griffin tournament a record 10 times in the event’s 40-year history, stretching from 1972 to 2005. He has also won the Polk County Amateur 3 times. Scamehorn has also won club championships at Lake Wales Country Club, Southern Dunes, Cypresswood, and Lake Region Country Club, while holding the course records at Willowbrook, Lake Wales Country Club, Southern Dunes, and Orange County National.
Outside of Polk County, Bruce has won numerous honors statewide. Among those, he was voted the 2004 Senior Player of the Year by the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA), he has won 6 FSGA events over his career, has played in 7 Southeast Challenge Matches and 4 Florida Cup Matches, and has qualified for 3 United States Golf Association (USGA) events, including the U.S. Senior Amateur in 2008.
