Scott Clack
Scott Clack left his mark on waterskiing by defining the sport’s competitive freestyle jumping division. Originally freestyle jumping was limited to just ski show acts, but Scott developed it into a competitive event. He competed in competitive freestyle jumping on the professional tour for 16 years, where he once won a record 17 straight tour stops, as well as the Tour’s season champion for freestyle jumping 4 times.
Scott started skiing in 1969 and began his career in show skiing at Cypress Gardens in 1982. He remained there for 18 years, winning the Cypress Gardens Skier of the Year 3 times. He also served as show director at the Gardens from 1995 to 1998. Clack’s water skiing skills enabled him to travel the world and meet many of the world’s most famous people. He has skied for the President of Beirut, King Hussein of Jordan, and Queen Elizabeth of England. He has also done stunt work for movies such as Meatballs and Smokey and the Bandit 3.
Scott has won numerous other honors, including the American Water Ski Educational Foundation (AWSEF) Award of Distinction in 2001. He was also the World Precision Hang Gliding Champion from 1990 through 2000. In 2007, he was inducted into the AWSEF Hall of Fame, joining his mother Barbara (a 1986 inductee) and marking the first parent-sibling duo in the history of the hall of fame. Scott also joins his mother in the Polk County Sports Hall of Fame, marking the first parent-sibling duo in the Polk County Sports Hall of Fame as well.
